Amulet collection | DEmark award 2021

Amulet frame collection has inspiration from 3 temples that represent Buddhism in Thailand in different periods of time. Why use temples as a concept for amulet frame design? The answer is simple since monks and Buddhist statues live in temples so these amulet frames are miniature of them.

Design Story

Ayutthaya: Wat Phutthaisawan – The temple from Ayutthaya that survived the destruction during the 2nd fall of Ayutthaya, so the temple remains in its decent condition in present day.

We use the most striking aspect of this temple is a white ‘Prang’ pattern detail to design a triangle shape amulet.

อยุธยา: วัดพุทไธศวรรย์ - พระอารามหลวงที่รอดพ้นจากการเผาทำลายของพม่า

จะเป็นกรอบพระทรงสามเหลี่ยม ใช้ดีเทลลาย จากพระปรางค์ของวัดมาลดทอนให้เรียบง่ายขึ้น เล่นลายผิวด้านกับผิวเงาของโลหะ เพื่อให้เกิดมิติและความสวยงาม

Rattanakosin – Wat Ratchabophit – This temple represents current Buddhism in Thailand since the current Supreme Patriarch of Thailand lives here.

We use an interesting Gothic ceiling design in interior to design a round amulet frame.

รัตนโกสินทร์: วัดราชบพิธ วัดประจำรัชกาลที่ 5 และ 7 ที่ผ่านพ้นการเปลี่ยนแปลงสำคัญของประเทศไทย และปัจจุบันเป็นที่พำนักของพระสังฆราช

ลายวัดราชบพิธ จะเป็นกรอบพระกลม โดยนำมาจากพระระเบียงโค้งทรงกลมที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ของวัด และนำลวดลายฝ้าเพดานในอุโบสถภายใน ที่เป็นทรงโกธิค มาออกแบบลวดลายกรอบพระ

Bodh Gaya – Mahabodhi Temple – where Gautama Buddha is said to have attained Enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree.

We chose a rectangular amulet shape for this design. Using a sculpture pattern from Mahabodhi temple to design overall frame, and special gimmick on the back is the bodhi leaf print detail which comes from real leaf collected from original Mahabodhi Temple in India.

พุทธกาล: พุทธคยา วัดศรีมหาโพธิ์ สถานที่ที่พระพุทธเจ้าตรัสรู้ โดยลายพุทธคยา จะเป็นกรอบพระตลับสี่เหลี่ยม ด้านหน้าสอบเข้าเป็นทรงปิรามิดคล้ายทรงของเจดีย์ ใช้ลวดลายจากเจดีย์พุทธคยามาออกแบบ ส่วนด้านหลังเป็นลายใบโพธิ์ของจริงที่นำมาจากพุทธคยา อินเดีย มาปั้มลายลงบนแผ่นทองหรือเงิน เพื่อเป็นตัวแทนของต้นโพธิ์ที่พระพุทธเจ้าตรัสรู้

We create designs by simplifying elements of each temple to bridge the ritual and fashion together which is part of regenerative design.

การออกแบบได้นำลวดลายที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ของแต่ละวัด มาทำให้เรียบง่ายขึ้น เพื่อให้ร่วมสมัย modern ต่างไปจากแบบดั้งเดิม ทำให้สวมใส่ง่ายเข้ากับเสื้อผ้าที่สวมใส่ในชีวิตประจำวัน
